The cat lady Embla is one of the country’s sharpest detectives. She is not afraid of the unknown and is always keen on fighting crime. With her husband, police chief Ask, by her side, they battle their nemesis, Silverfox.
Embla usually takes the initiative and pushes the investigation, but that will also put her in precarious situations.

Ask is the chief of police in Fableburg and does his best to keep law and order in the town and its surroundings. The police in Fableburg and the rest of Europe are struggling to catch the villain Silverfox, but Ask and Embla has succeeded at least once.
Ask & Embla is written by Mats Ingelborn
Mats published his first book in 2012 and have since published several books, both fiction and non-fiction. He also does translations and is especially keen on rejuvenating old pulp-fiction stories.
He was born and raised in Sweden’s capital Stockholm but has lived and worked for many years in London, UK. He lives with his wife, has two grown-up children and loves to spend the summers on the sailboat.
Ask and Embla is a work of love, born out of an old Norwegian detective story, the image of the cat and the dog, and Mats’s first grandchild, Ask.
Jag heter Mats Ingelborn och det är jag som har skrivit böckerna om Ask och Embla; Fallet med krucifixet och Fallet med de djävulska fotspåren.
Idag tänkte jag berätta lite om hur det kom sig att jag började skriva de här. Det hela började faktiskt för ganska många år sedan eller åtminstone flera år sedan då hittade några gamla detektivberättelser av en norsk författare som hette Sverre Vegenor. Jag ville göra någonting med dem. Det är ganska bra berättelser med en rolig intrig och min tanke var att skriva hårdkokta tuffa deckare a’la Mike Hammer. Jag jobbade med de här berättelserna och försökte få till det men jag fick aldrig till det och projektet rann ut i sanden.
Sedan hände två saker vid ungefär samma tillfälle. Först hittade jag den här illustrationen på katten och hunden. Sedan fick jag mitt första barnbarn och det fick heta Ask som andra namn. De här två sakerna gjorde att jag på något sätt ändrade min syn på de här gamla deckarna från hårdkokta tuffa deckare som Mike Hammer till betydligt snällare barndeckare med en hund och en katt i huvudrollen. Embla är katten och det är hon som är den smarta detektiven och hennes man hunden Ask som är polismästare i den lilla staden Fabelborg.
Andra bilder som jag har haft framför mig när jag har skrivit de här berättelserna är Maria Lang och givetvis Folke Mellvigs berättelser om Hillman framförallt de filmerna om deckarparet Hillman. De har varit stora inspirationskällor. Jag ser Annalisa Eriksson framför mig när jag tänker på Embla som den här vassa privatdetektiven. I detta grundades mina tankar på Ask och Embla.
Idag finns det två stycken berättelser utgivna. Jag har skrivit två stycken berättelser till som är klara. Jag väntar nu på illustrationer för den nästkommande. Alla de här böckerna är väldigt trevligt och fint illustrerade som jag tycker barnböcker ska vara.
Nästa bok heter Fallet med hotellet som försvann. Därefter kommer Fallet med öns hemlighet och just nu sitter jag och skriver på den femte som har arbetstiteln Fallet med Faraons förbannelse.
Då har ni fått lite bakgrund och lite framtid om Ask och Embla.
En eftermiddag ringde det till polisstationen i Fabelborg.
– Jag har blivit rånad! skrek en man i telefonen.
Ask och en poliskonstapel åkte genast ut till mannens bostad, en villa på Storkgatan. Mannen som hette herr Ibis var mycket upprörd och flaxade med armarna när han berättade om stölden.
– Någon har krossat fönstret på baksidan, krupit in och stulit min dyrbara diamantring.
Efter en stund kom Embla dit och fick höra historien berättas. Hon gick runt till baksidan på huset och såg det krossade fönstret och glasskärvorna som låg i gräset nedanför.
– Sätt handbojor på herr Ibis, sa hon. Han är en bedragare och ska till finkan.
Kan du också lista ut hur Embla löste fallet så snabbt?
Embla såg att glaset från det krossade fönstret låg i gräset på utsidan av huset. Det betyder att fönstret slogs sönder inifrån och därför antog Embla att det var herr Ibis själv som slagit sönder det, gömt diamantringen och hoppas få ersättning från försäkringsbolaget.
Du vet säkert att Embla är en av landets främsta detektiver, att hon är en katt och att hon bor i staden Fabelborg. Men vet du det här?
Embla behöver spännande mysterier att undersöka annars blir hon otålig och irriterad. Att lösa fall är det som får henne att känna sig levande.
Till frukost tycker Embla bäst om te och smörgås. Det ska vara svart te med en liten skvätt mjölk, hon är ju trots allt katt.
Hon berättar inte allt. När Embla tror att hon kommit på lösningen till ett mysterium berättar hon inte alltid detta för Ask. Förr blev han irriterad när hon bara försvann och kom tillbaka med en lösning men nu har han förstått att det är sådan som hon är.
På en gård långt norr om Fabelborg upptäcker det gamla paret Grävling fasansfulla fotspår i snön. Det är djävulens egna avtryck. De ber om hjälp från byns präst men han kan inte göra mer än få lokalpolisen att kalla på förstärkning från Fabelborg. Det blir just vad Embla behöver när hon uttråkad sitter och tittar på snön som faller över gatorna. Men är det verkligen Lucifer själv som ligger bakom eller spelar någon bara paret Grävling ett spratt?

När Emblas gamla skolkamrat, prästen Pälle, söker upp henne och Ask på polisstationen berättar han att hans dotter blivit kattnappad. Skurken har meddelat att hon endast återfås om Pälle lämnar ifrån sig församlingens värdefulla krucifix. Kattnapparen har signerat sina meddelanden med X men snart visar det sig att en gammal välkänd skurk ligger bakom.
När Embla själv blir fängslad i en gravkammare krävs det extraordinära insatser av Ask & Embla för att fånga skurkarna.
